The Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) marked a historic milestone in its 75-year journey with the inauguration of its new secretariat premises in Mumbai on 11 August 2026. The occasion brought together TAAI’s managing committee, Chairpersons from across India, past presidents, members and leading representatives of the travel, tourism and hospitality industry in a celebration filled with nostalgia, pride and emotion. The inauguration holds special significance as TAAI commemorates 75 years of excellence, celebrating seven and a half decades of service, leadership and contribution to India’s travel, tourism and hospitality sector. The new secretariat represents more than a new physical space; it reflects TAAI’s legacy, its present stature and its vision for the future.
Located in a well-connected complex close to Terminal 2 of Mumbai International Airport, the new secretariat offers approximately 1,100 sq. ft. of carpet area. The contemporary premises feature a specially designed conference room for managing committee meetings, cabins for officers and staff, and thoughtfully planned spaces aimed at providing greater convenience and functionality for members and visitors.
A particularly moving moment of the inauguration was the participation of TAAI’s past presidents, who joined TAAI President Sunil Kumar R in formally declaring the new secretariat open. Past Presidents Mahendra K. Sanghi (1980–1982), Cyrus Guzder (1984–1985), Ashwini Kakkar (2005–2006) and Iqbal Mulla performed the honours of ribbon-cutting and lighting the traditional lamp. Their participation brought together generations of TAAI leadership and symbolised the continuity of the Association’s journey.
As the past presidents shared memories and reflections, the occasion became a celebration of TAAI’s institutional history and the people who have contributed to its growth. For its members and former leaders, the new secretariat represents not only a new address but also a reminder of how far TAAI has travelled and the opportunities that lie ahead. Speaking on the occasion, TAAI President Sunil Kumar R described the new secretariat as an important institutional accomplishment and a key milestone in the association’s 75 years of excellence celebrations. He dedicated the achievement to every TAAI member, acknowledging members as the Association’s greatest source of strength.
He also expressed his appreciation to the managing committee and chairpersons of TAAI’s regions and chapters for their continued support, with a special mention of the leadership and members of the TAAI Western Region for their contribution to the memorable occasion. The new secretariat is envisioned as a permanent institutional space reflecting TAAI’s growth, stature and future aspirations. The inauguration witnessed the presence of industry leaders representing airlines, hotels, technology companies and other segments of the travel, tourism and hospitality ecosystem, along with TAAI members, partners and well-wishers. The event also attracted significant media attention.
The celebrations continued in the evening with an industry get-together hosted by TAAI Western Region to commemorate TAAI’s 75 years of excellence and celebrate the opening of the new Secretariat. Past presidents, past chairpersons and former members of the managing committee of the Western Region who had contributed significantly to TAAI’s growth and development were honoured for their leadership and service.
As TAAI enters its next chapter, the new secretariat stands as a symbol of its enduring legacy, institutional strength and commitment to the future of India’s travel and tourism industry.
