With the objective of establishing Maharashtra as a preferred global destination for MICE tourism, the Government of Maharashtra, through its Department of Tourism, is implementing key initiatives under the Maharashtra Tourism Policy 2024. A year after launching these initiatives, the state now invites organisers, delegates, and industry stakeholders from across the globe to host world-class events in Maharashtra and be part of this growing opportunity.
At the heart of this initiative is the Maharashtra Convention Bureau, the first of its kind in any state in India, which has moved from concept to a fully functioning institution. The Maharashtra Convention Bureau was announced on 21 May 2025 at IMEX Frankfurt by a state delegation led by the Minister of State for Tourism, Indranil Naik, and the Deputy Secretary, Department of Tourism, Santosh Rokade. Headquartered in Mumbai and led by the Additional Chief Secretary (Tourism), the Bureau brings government and industry together on a single platform, with an initial focus on the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Pune, Nashik, Nagpur, and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar.
Its mandate is to position Maharashtra to host world-class events, strengthen coordination with organisers in India and abroad, simplify event hosting, ease doing business, and build a skilled workforce through dedicated training and certification. Event organisers, hospitality players, and skilled professionals alike are encouraged to engage with the Bureau and join this growing ecosystem.
A single international conference can support hundreds of jobs across hotels, transport, logistics, and event management. Beyond the immediate economic impact, every successfully hosted event strengthens Maharashtra’s standing as a preferred destination for business events, increasing the likelihood of attracting more conferences and conventions in the future. MICE travellers also contribute significantly to the local economy, spending on accommodation, dining, transport, and other services. Many choose to extend their visit, allowing them to experience more of what Maharashtra has to offer.
Sanjay Khandare (IAS), Additional Chief Secretary (Tourism), Government of Maharashtra, said, “Maharashtra is committed to creating a world-class ecosystem for meetings, conferences, conventions, and exhibitions. Through the Maharashtra Convention Bureau, we are providing organisers with a single point of facilitation and a collaborative platform that makes planning and hosting events easier. With strong connectivity, diverse destinations, modern venues, and a supportive policy framework, Maharashtra is well positioned to host global business events. We invite organisers from India and across the world to partner with us and experience the opportunities the state has to offer.”
