The Indian Association Congress (IAC) has established itself as a vital platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and strategic growth within India’s association community. Since its inception, it has brought together thought leaders, policymakers, association leaders, and industry stakeholders to address challenges and explore emerging trends collectively.
In this exclusive interview, we speak with Prasant Saha, Convention IAC, about the evolving role of associations in a rapidly transforming world, the importance of innovation and collaboration, and the vision for the upcoming edition of IAC, scheduled to be held in Jaipur on 29–30 August 2025.
What, in your view, sets the India Association Congress apart from other MICE and association-focused events in the country?
The India Association Congress is not simply a MICE event. Its purpose goes much deeper—it is a platform that unites diverse stakeholders to drive trade, foster knowledge exchange, and strengthen the role of associations, all while aligning with the broader goals of tourism and national development.
How has the Congress evolved over the years in terms of scale, participation, and impact?
From the beginning, IAC was never about scale for the sake of numbers. Its focus has always been on quality, creating meaningful connections, and ensuring that every edition leaves participants with insights, collaborations, and a sense of purpose that outlasts the event itself.
What are the biggest challenges associations face today, and how can platforms like IAC help in overcoming them?
Associations often tackle challenges in isolation—whether it’s financial sustainability, member engagement, or adapting to new technologies. IAC creates a safe space to share, learn, and co-create solutions across industries and professions. This collective approach makes it easier to overcome common challenges.
Could you share some of the highlights and new elements that participants can look forward to in this year’s edition?
We always align our agenda with current realities. This year, we are addressing global shifts, cybersecurity, the future of work, and the uncertainties facing hospitality. A hands-on AI workshop will also help participants explore practical applications of emerging technologies.
How does the Congress theme for this year resonate with the current needs of associations and the industries they represent?
“Rooted in Purpose, Aiming for Impact” reflects exactly where associations are today. They are leaning on their strengths and experiences to find innovative solutions for the future, while never losing sight of their core mission—to create meaningful impact for their members and society.
In your opinion, how critical are networking and peer-to-peer learning opportunities for association leaders?
They are absolutely essential. No leader can thrive in isolation. The collective strength of associations lies in shared learning, collaboration, and mutual support. Peer-to-peer exchange often sparks ideas and partnerships that would not have emerged otherwise.
How do you see Indian associations benchmarking themselves against global best practices? Where do you see the association movement in India headed in the next decade?
Indian associations are increasingly engaging in international standardisation and leadership roles. While adopting global best practices, they adapt them thoughtfully to suit local realities. This ensures relevance and effectiveness. In the next decade, I would like to see the global community looking to India for inspiration and learning from our best practices.
What lessons can India draw from international association management models?
International associations are innovating with flexible membership models, digital engagement platforms, and new revenue streams beyond traditional conferences. They emphasise accreditation, professional education, and standardisation. These models show us that adaptability and continuous capacity-building are key to staying relevant.
How is technology transforming association management, member engagement, and event experiences? Do you think AI and digital platforms are going to redefine the way associations deliver value?
Technology is a powerful enabler. AI and digital platforms can certainly streamline operations and personalise engagement. But at the heart of association work is human connection, collaboration, and trust. Technology should serve as a tool to amplify these values—not replace them.
If you were to share one piece of advice with association leaders in India, what would it be?
Never underestimate the importance of your mission. At the same time, don’t shy away from embracing new tools and technologies that will help you connect with the next generation of members. The balance between purpose and innovation is where true lead
